SIG-WM & SIG-PL

SIG-WM(Special Interest Group for Web Minig) and SIG-PL(Special Interest Group for Programming Linux) were setup last month and both have organized activities in the form of discussing theoretical or engineering problems.

SEWM Library

A small library inside SEWM group has been established last month. Prof. Li and Mr. Peng have made considerable efforts on the construction, both of whom have made donations to this new library. Our librarian, Yuan Liu, is now working on the management of the books.

The 5th National Symposium on Search Engine and Web Ming(SEWM 2007)

Our group has shown great enthusiasm on this symposium, to which Students Chong Chen, Conglei Yao, Yuan Liu etc. have sent their papers. By 15th November, SEWM 2007 has received 531 papers, a record definitely unpreceding.

The 4th National Symposium of Search Engine and Web Mining(21st-23rd, Jul. 2006)

Bo Peng, Ji-Min Wang, Bi-Hong Gong, Jing-Jing Li and Jing He chaired the evaluations of retrieval performance and webpage classification on "The 4th National Symposium of Search Engine and Web Mining", which was held at the University of Shandong in late July.

Beidaihe Tour. (17, 18, Jul. 2006)

SEWM group organized a tour for Beidaihe for 2 days, with participants of group members and their boyfriends/girlfriends. Pictures of this tour is available on the group ftp server.

CWT200G Released. (27th, Apr. 2006)

CWT200G(Chinese Web Test Collection with 200 GB Web Pages), which is a 197 GB data set with a total of 37,482,913 web pages from 29,100 web sites, was officially released on Apr. 12th, 2006. Please visit http://www.cwirf.org for detailed information.

TREC 2006 on!

SEWM continues to be part of the TREC 2006 tracks. Besides the QA Track, the Enterprise Track and the Terabyte Track that SEWM participated last year, Yuan Liu and Yongjun Bao are also now on the Blog Track. This year, Jing He, Yuan Liu, Chong Chen and Shengliang Gao would participate in the QA Track, Jing He, Conglei Yao, Zhifeng Yang in the Enterprise Track, and Hongfei Yan, Jingjing Li in the Terabyte Track.

Investigating into the Webpages across China.

In the aid of CNNIC, SEWM has just finished doing an investigation on the webpages that are currently available in China. The investigation involves webpage encoding statistics, domain name statistics, page number in each province, etc.
